http://www.jasonlundberg.net/

Every time people ask me what sabbatical I'm in, I'll say, "The raping course. Where you learn the various techniques and positions of rape."

Which is (do I need to say this?) untrue. Y'know, some people actually believe me. No idea how or why.

Anyway, what I really joined was the Fiction Writing Course, which I complained it was boring because it really wasn't very exciting, sitting around reading stories, looking at powerpoint slides with stuff I already know, critiquing stories. But it's what I enjoy, so it's not that bad. And with ACE! And I got to know a few great writers in HCI (which I thought didn't exist anymore).

Jason Lundberg is a pretty cool teacher. Expat jokes aside, his experience as a published writer was invaluable and yeah, while I thought it was a pleasant teaching course so far.

Okay now the EXPAT JOKES.

The stereotyped expat:

1) is fat
2) has an accent that, to Singaporean ears, become an interesting pitchy bird call in the distance
3) is married to a local or can't get laid and die old and loveless
4) is fat (did I mention that?)
5) has passive demeanors
6) after seeing the atrocities of students in S'pore, has extremely low standards if they're teachers, so good writers can score well
7) is supportive of free speech (except during lesson time)
8) opposes homophobes (too true)
9) is extremely interested in the Singapore culture

(With the exception of PAG for 5. The way he yells at us is uniquely British.)

Speaking of PAG, I took the same bus with him home. (I know that is a pretty ambiguous sentence, but no, we don't live together, we don't have a reason to, and my relationship with him is a healthy teacher-student thing. Just that it's not that healthy because I don't really like him.)

Remember he gave me 29/30? Now I feel as if I'm obliged to like him. Though he doesn't say it, I get the impression that I have to like him because I got a score like that. So maybe I'm thinking too much. I pretty much ignored him during the trip home.

(This paragraph is not coherent.) Oh, guess who I saw at the bus stop today? At least now I can confirm what school he's in. Though I swear I saw him in HCI uniform. I'm thinking of twins, but urgh, thanks but no thanks.

(insert ending here)

Dear Spikey,

Do not EVER EVER DO THAT AGAIN. I really feel embarrassed for you. I mean, at least write a decent story! (Really, it was so indecent) Readers would never want to read about your fantasies. C'mon! You can do better.
